Moms are busy.
My kids are young and busy. My full time job is just trying to keep up with their schedules. We are on the go a lot these days. School clubs, track, soccer, American Heritage Girls — this month has included one free day and I won't see another for two more weeks. Even with limiting the number of activities each child can do, it is not uncommon for me to pick my son up at school and head straight to the next activity or appointment. I have one day each week that has me running from 7am until 7pm!
I always thought when my kids were a bit older that the pace would slow down. Now we have an endless parade of homework, sports practices, music lessons and extra-curriculars. I need to add in errands, work, orthodontists appointments, my house needs to be cleaned and I really do need to keep my family fed, healthy and happy. My days become so busy that I let hours go by without recharging and taking a moment for myself.
I'm always careful about providing for my children and ensuring they are eating and drinking in between all their activities. But I always forget to show myself the same level of care. Sometimes an entire day can pass and I have not eaten or drank anything at all. When this happens, I know it affects my mood. When I hear myself being grouchy momma, I know I need to take a few moment to indulge.
When I forget to take care of myself, not only does it affect my mood, but it dulls my mental alertness. This is not too smart of me since I am driving my three children around all afternoon to their activities. Additionally, around four o'clock everyday I hit a wall and literally could fall asleep wherever I am. I run out of the energy I need during the day because I am not recharging myself.
Simply locate a basket or bag to carry all your indulging items in. I selected a basket with handles for easy mobility. I then filled the basket with all my selections. I also added a sign that states: For Mom. That means it is for me and not the kiddos!
So even though I’d much rather spend a day at the beach, travel with friends, or head to a spa; I’m much more realistic and maybe that day will come after my kids graduate college. Here’s my way of treating myself whilst constantly on the go. Remember to take the time to do this for yourself and show your body and mind some love!
Here are my favorite go-to indulgences for busy days:
If I could, I would go to the spa everyday for some treatment or another. But real life gets in the way and it is simply not feasible. So I am able to achieve a spa moment any time I please on the go. If I am feeling stressed or tired, I can head to my Mom On The Go Basket and take some time to mentally refresh. Here are some other items I tossed in my Mom On The Go Basket.
I put this basket together for myself to regain some of my me time. Part of being a mom isn’t just based on shuffling my children around, there’s so much more to it than this! I need to remember to take a little more time to myself. I need to fit in some time to relax, rejuvenate, de-stress, and indulge myself for everything I do.
