David Lloyd for families

With a few weeks left of school and the UK going through a mega heatwave right now we are really feeling the summer. I'm so looking to six weeks off with my buddy after his first year of school but I'd be lying if I wasn't daunted by the weeks stretching ahead with no childcare and entertaining two kiddos, especially adding to that the fact I work from home.

When David Lloyd got in touch to ask if we'd like to trail their family membership by initial thought was 'outdoor pool, yes please!' but after being shown around the facilities I now realise a membership offers so much more than that.

I have to admit I've joined gyms before (pre kids) and they've ranged for hot sweat smelling rooms of running machines to a slightly more upmarket but still quite sterile feeling places. What stuck we straight away was how different David Lloyd feels to that. It feels welcome immediately but more so it feels welcoming to family, with children being catered for in so many ways. First off we met around the cafe, with a special soft play area for two different age groups. Both Mabli and Wilf zoomed off to play whilst we drank a coffee and chatted with the other mums.

Mabli was settled into the creche for a couple of hours whilst we had a taste of two of the classes (yoga and circuits!) and Wilf went off to try the kids club. I picked them both up beaming (Mabli didn't cry once!) and Wilf has since named it 'club fun!' he's already telling me he cannot wait until the summer holiday to go back.

I've actually been back three times in the last two weeks (you may have seen on my IG stories), we returned as a family on the weekend to cool off in the pool and then again to make use of the creche whilst I got a bit of work done. Although I'm keen to use the gym and classes something I'm over the moon about is their flexible childcare options and their 'business hub' area which will help me (and other freelance parents I imagine) so much throughout the holiday.

I'll be back over the next few months to let you know how we're getting on. We're going to start Wilf with swim class just as soon as school breaks up.
