Homemade Christmas - DIY Boxwood Wreath

I am so excited to be a part of a tour that's all about creating something that is handmade. I have such an appreciation for the care, time and skill that people put into their crafts, as I am sure you agree. Each day five different bloggers will share a handmade project with you. It may be something for your home or to give as a gift but something that you can make.
Today I am going to share a few simple steps on how to make a Boxwood Wreath.
Since my goal this year was to incorporate as many natural elements into my holiday decor, that you can see here, using my boxwood clippings from my yard were first on my list.
Supplies needed
Boxwood clippings in various lengths
Wire frame wreath form
Floral Wire in a dark color
Garden shears or scissors
Now, I realize not everyone has boxwood shrubs in the yard. If you don't, my advice to you..... go ask your neighbor. I am pretty sure they won't mind if you can clip away at their bush. And if they are anything like me, we actually trim our boxwoods a few times a year so clippings are abundant.
Step 1
Make sure you boxwood clippings are clean and pest free by shaking or rinsing off. Boxwood is patient once they are cut.The boxwood that I am using for this wreath, were cut 6 weeks ago. Notice the stems are still firm and have retained their green glossy leaves.
Step 2
Group varying lengths together in small bunches and begin to secure to the wreath form with the floral wire. The size of your bunch really depends on your wreath size. This wreath took about 6-7 bunches to fill.
Step 3
Secure the boxwood by wrapping the wire on the spool around the boxwood tightly a few times and then cut. Twist any wire end pieces together.
Step 4
Continue working around the wreath form in one direction. You should layer and place the tips of the boxwood on the wire portion of the previous bunch. This will conceal some of the wires. When you have secured all of your bunches, take any small clippings and fill any gaps or holes by just tucking them in. If necessary, secure with wire.
Step 5
Trim away any excess stems with your shears or scissors. The amount you trim back, really depends on what kind of look you want. I prefer my boxwood wreath to be neat and tidy, so my wreath has a consistent shape.
I have boxwood wreaths in a few different locations around my home this holiday season. This particular wreath is hanging on my armoire in my bedroom. I softened it by adding a cream color ribbon.
