Singapore Skyline

When I think back to where I was in my life three years ago, I really feel the need to pinch myself to make sure I’m not dreaming.

And while it’s really easy to look at photos like these and think, ‘well, of course she loves her job – look at the traveling she does!’ – it is truly not just about the trips.

Well, maybe it’s a *little* about the trips.

Singapore was amazing. It was my first trip to Asia and it was eye-opening. It was beautiful. It was exotic. It was familiar. It was just … awesome. But what made it such an amazing trip was that it wasn’t just a trip. It wasn’t just me going to enjoy myself, it was me going to learn. It was because a company decided to invest in my knowledge of a particular region that we market to, and they knew first-hand experience was what we needed.

Every time I gazed at the beautiful foliage, or the amazingly tall skyline, or the shining lights on the harbor I thought about how three years ago I was working a dead-end job in a call center. I thought about how much I loathed driving to work every morning. I thought about how I could not have cared less about how well or how badly I performed my job. And even though I might still have rough days at work, or even question whether being a working mom is “worth” it … I thank my lucky stars every day for this job that I have now and love so much.

I came home to two little boys (and one Husband) who missed me terribly for the seven days I was gone – and oh man, I missed them too. But I also came home satisfied. I came home full of excitement. I came home and felt like I had accomplished something; that I had learned something.

My colleague and I were lucky enough to be able to work through the day, and do some sight-seeing at night. I can not say enough how lovely the Garden City was, and how I can’t wait to go back again. We were particularly lucky to be there at the Chinese New Year and see all the lovely lanterns and decorations. It was so amazing to learn about all the different cultures represented in such a small, but lovely country.

All the photos were taken with my iPhone, and edited through Afterlight. To follow along on any travels I am lucky enough to take part in, follow me on Instagram (@tottums) or with the #TottumsTravels hash. Stay tuned, and I’ll let you know how I survived a 16.5 hour flight from Dallas to Hong Kong!
