A Cup of Tea With Me

Well now, what a long weekend! Thanks Queenie!

I may or may not have a repository of royal recipes on this site (Eton mess, William’s favourite Banana Flan, the Queen’s favourite Jam Pennies, her favourite Dundee Cake coming up, which you can see below), but I spent a hell of a lot of the weekend googling more royal recipes from their private chefs. One of them is a bread and butter pudding made with crustless bread and egg yolks which would have to be the most decadent/delicious version of that pudding I could ever dream of. Far more decadent than my version made with sandwich crusts, haha. There’s also a baked potato with cheese sauce situation that I am now forced to recreate myself as I can’t live another day without it.

I think my problem has been that I’m addicted to reading this biography of Kate I downloaded last week. Every time I read one thing that happened, I’m off googling pictures of it (fact-checking, you see… this biography appears mostly legit), until I’m reading all of a blog’s 2011 posts on what the pair were up to, and back issues of Pippa’s Vanity Fair columns on cricket. I was deep, man. That internet appears to never end.

And then they bust out pictures of the actual cutest children on Earth.

Well, besides this one, of course. Finally wearing a hat I made her last winter.

For two whole days of the long weekend I wrenched myself away from the book and interacted with real, non-royal people (funnily enough, that appears to be the only type of people I ever interact with), first with a road trip out to Rushworth to say hi to my fam out there, leave some flowers at my nana’s resting place on her 10th anniversary, and eat chips at the pub. I love that town, I know we’ve all moved far away from it, but I can’t help but keep going back. I need to Shinrin-yoku in their ironbark forests or something. It’s like a compulsion.

Day two was a hot chocolate with friends at CERES, and inspecting my cousin’s new CBD apartment. She’s just moved back from the UK where she married an English fella and now lives dangerously close to dumplings, so I’ll expect she’ll have me on her doorstep at least once a week. Not a bad view, though:

I mean, I’ve seen worse.

This week will probably be another hustle week as I’ve got some travel coming up, but not without another brownie cheesecake experiment. I made Michelle’s Chocolate Wheaty Biscuits yesterday, so someone will have to eat those. I think it will be a very food/play-focused week (I’m still the check-up patient, apparently there’s been a run of chickens living in my eyes) as it’s way too cold to go out, and I’m still trying to make meals from all my pantry stores. I just found ANOTHER bag of brown sugar.

Happy week, folks! What did you get up to over the long weekend? Want a piece of cheesecake brownie?

Made a Veggie Mama recipe for yourself? I'd love to see it! tag #veggiemamafood on social media and let me know!
