Thoughts #1: You Go Girl!
Hello Wanderlettes! How was your week?
I’m actually so ready to chill this weekend because this week I managed to get a bit more organised and actually got lots of stuff done – even though my social life suffered a bit, but well, sometimes it calls for sacrifices! (and I hope I’ll make it up to it over the weekend!). Anyways, past week was full of photo shoots, despite the tragic weather we’ve had here in Copenhagen! I really am awaiting the first sunny days with excitement, so please, be spring!
This week was International Women’s Day and the internet got filled with stories of inspiring women, badass quotes, hustling, and girl bossin’, but also stories of real women who had it hard in life, how we, women don’t believe in ourselves and just don’t make it in some fields. Lately, I’ve noticed all the viral videos saying that we need to set a good example for small girls, starting with something as simple as fairy tales – and show them that you can do a lot more than sit on your butt and wait to be saved by some dude (on that note, watch “Moana”, it’s the cutest thing ever!) – and I definitely do agree to some extent. I grew up in a supportive family and on stories like this, but also stories about badass girls making life fun; I read about all kind of girls – the strong and the powerless, the quirky and the sporty, the wild and the smart. But still I’m often insecure about what I do, I find myself not fully believing in what I can do and so often question if I’m ever gonna do well, even if I do my best.
So YOU’RE A GIRL. First, ideally, you are pretty – and by pretty, I mean no curves, because that’s fat, right? So – be slim, but not too slim, because then you’re definitely anorexic (oh yeah, for the record, I’m half Asian and I do eat). Second, be an A girl at school. You’re not? Well, you better bring your game up if you wanna get into a good uni, right? Oh, you’re smart? Don’t be too smart, boys are intimidated by smart and powerful women. Third – so, you want to study another degree? Shouldn’t you finally find a real job? Soon you’ll be thirty (say that to a 23 year old!) and you need to take some responsibility, have kids and finally settle down because without that your life will be empty. Oh, you wanna start a blog? Well, you know, these days half million followers means nothing, sooo I don’t know… Oh boy, could I go on and on.
So dear “I-know-it-all” people in the “I-will-judge-you-no-matter-what” society: not every girl will shake it off, keep her sparkle, thrive and go for her dreams. What I’d really like to see by the end of the week full of talks on women is not Pinterest quotes on how small girls deserve better fairy tales and one day a better world. I’d like to see more open mindedness, tolerance and will to just let people do what they want! You live your life the way you want and let others do the same. I want to see real girls who’re having power in their hands today to stand up with their head up high and no matter who says what – simply… freakin’ go for it.
Sophia Amoruso said in her #Girlboss book: “When I hear no, I rarely listen.” I say, YOU GO GIRL. Go out there and do you. Be different, challenge them, piss them off, but do your thing.
As my little rant got longer than planned, here’s a short fashion note! I’m wearing: Denim jacket – thrifted!, Graphic tee – Monki, Jeans (I spilled wax on them yesterday, please tell me that everything will be fine!) – Topshop (similar), Sneakers – Cheap Monday.
I love these shots I got with this megababe, my friend Tia. She’s the ultimate style goddess for me and an truly amazing girl! She’s wearing: Denim jacket – Monki, Red dress – Zara, loose pants – Weekday, heels – thrift find from Gabor.
So, that’s it for now! Till next time Wanderlettes! ❤️
