Constellation Candle Holder

Here’s another post in my “Inspired by…” series, where I try out some crafty tutorials from other bloggers and add my own twist. When I saw this clay votive DIY from A Beautiful Mess, I thought it would be really cool to use it to make little constellation patterns. Soooo that’s what I did.

DIY Constellation Candle Holder – what you need:

  • sculpey clay
  • rolling pin
  • knife or clay sculpting tool
  • straw or toothpick
  • battery powered flameless candle

You can get the actual instructions for this project over on the original tutorial. But the basic idea is to roll out your clay and then poke holes into it in the shape of a constellation. I chose the big dipper because it’s the most recognizable. Also, my candle holder is a bit smaller than the one in the original tutorial, so I used the large end of a toothpick to poke holes in the clay rather than a straw. Once you’re happy with your constellation pattern, form the clay into the shape of a candle holder and then bake it in the oven. Add a flameless candle and then enjoy how the constellation glows and stands out from the clay.
