The Nineties Called

(Glasses: Monki, Top: ASOS, Skirt: C/O Lily and the Lamplight, Boots: Zara (old but similar here), Bag: & Other Stories)
Perhaps it was the news of an impending Steps reunion, my undying love for the Angus Thongs series or even an internal (and closet) yearning to reach for the glittery hair mascara once again- but after putting this skirt on (which in my head said Alexa, I promise- exhibit a and b) I felt a sudden throw back to the eve of the millennium and ‘Stomp’ playing through a tape recorder.

Okay, so perhaps I’m being a little melodramatic- but silky print skirts like these seem to be one of the few things the current nineties revival forgot . Give me Gazelles, CK tops and the like- but what I’m secretly after is a Lisa-Scott Lee inspired get up with a modern nod taken from some Cobain-esque sunnies and a ribbed knit which says school disco circa ’98. It’s probably because I’ve been wearing nothing other than jeans since October (a scroll through my outfit snaps confirmed all suspicion of this)- and it certainly felt refreshing to shake things up a little in my wardrobe and brave some of the pieces I love yet haven’t felt confident enough to wear.

So, let this be an assurance to anyone who prefers a little TLC to Jay Z- the nineties are back, and whether you’re doing grunge (it’s only a matter of time before my Avril fishnet tee’s can get another look in surely), parachute trousers (okay, maybe not)- or a LSS (little silk skirt to you and I)- I promise you they’re still as fun second time around...
