Allotment Tour June 2015

It has been a hectic few days but I always have to go to work at the allotment. I sometimes feel embarrassed answering the phone and confessing that I’m at work because the truth is, this doesn’t feel like work. Growing our own food, showing the children how to fend for themselves, animal husbandry (we keep free range pigs), and all that we do is a way of life. I spent the past few days in Dublin city centre and there is nothing more grounding than going up to the plot to get work done.

I’ve had more than a few requests for details of what we’re growing and what the allotment looks like at the moment so I’ve recorded a video of the work we’ve done so far. It was recorded early this week, and even since then much has changed so I know this is going to be a regular thing! The polytunnel is missing from this video but there is a polytunnel tour to come soon, don’t worry.

If you take a wander around my YouTube channel you’ll see how much work we’ve done since the Autumn, it’s almost a completely different plot.

In other news, I’ve an article in Saturday’s Irish Times Magazine this week; you’ll find me writing about how to encourage your kids to eat well on a picnic. Also on Saturday I’ll be demonstrating at Taste of Dublin at the National Dairy Council’s “Skillery” with the Glenisk Team. If you’re around please do come and say hello.

I’ll be back soon with more shopping tips, great recipes that don’t cost the earth and more home-spun videos.

Thank you so much for your support.
