Shopping Tips – 13 April 2015

This week’s shopping tips have some real gems so I recommend you read right to the bottom! I have to say that the range of fresh products available in the major supermarkets is great. Still, there are also some decent products to be picked up on special offer, depending on what you’re interested in.

ALDI

The Super-Six vegetables on offer until Wednesday 15th April are: baby rooster potatoes, avocado, iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and cucumber; all priced at 39c.

The Super-Six meat offers until the same date (see above) are: ready-to-wok chicken, bacon eye loin, stewing beef, beef mince, duck fillets, and stuffed chicken breast; all priced at €4.

As Aldi are super-helpful, I can guarantee this blogpost will be updated on Thursday with the new Super-Six offers so be sure to check back then!

There’s running gear on special offer from Thursday, also available are a range of memory foam support pillows for €6.99 a piece. If you suffer from chronic back pain like me then you will love the knee cushion which balances the pressure on your back when you lie sideways in bed. They’re also helpful if you’re having hip issues during/after pregnancy. Great value altogether.

From Sunday you’ll be able to pick up a range of beauty products on offer, Batiste Dry Shampoo will be €2.79 for 200ml. It’s over a Euro more expensive in Tesco so that’s a bargain worth getting if you use it often enough.

DUNNES STORES

The offers run until 28th April, so here you go!

Mix and Match the following in store on a 2-for-€3 offer: Freddie Fyffes, snack pears, snack apples, yellow melon (each), snack pack oranges, kiwi tray, tenderstem broccoli, fine beans, organic onion bag, savoy cabbage, babycorn, mangetout, and 1kg rooster potatoes.

3-for-€10 mix and match on the following meat offers: 1lb mince, 700g ham fillet, thin cut steaks 300g, mini chicken breast fillets, salmon darnes (2’s), basted pork chops (4’s), whole chicken 1.1kg. That’s 3 small chickens for a tenner if you choose. Wowsers.

Also on offer is a Graco high-backed-booster seat for €24.99. A similar Graco seat (if not the same) is €39.99 in Smyth’s Toys at the moment.

Finally, the shop-and-save promotion (which gives you back 20% of your shopping bill the next time you visit) seems to have been extended for another month.

LIDL

The fresh offers this week are: Spanish style meatballs (€2.49), smoky paprika chicken breast strips (€2.99), marinated hake fillets (€2.99), marinated sea bass fillets (€3.99). Aubergines are 39c each, kiwi tray is 39c, cauliflower is 59c each, and sweet potatoes are 59c each.

Lidl have a Spanish theme this week including a bottle of Sangria for €9.99 so if the sun has you in the mood for holidays, you might like to get a head start on!

Pick of the special buys today is a 10W rechargeable battery LED Work Light. Now there’s a mouthful! It’s €34.99. Himself got one earlier and it is very incredibly bright.

From Thursday Lidl will have their suncream back in stock and it’s actually very, very good. There’s a bit of a holiday theme as they’ve also got a silver polycarbonate luggage set (2 pieces) for €99.99, although you could get the 30L trolley rucksack for €29.99 which is compliant with standard hand luggage rules on aircraft.

For JRR Tolkien fans, “The Battle Of The Five Armies” will be on sale for €12.99 in store from Friday.

SUPERVALU

I’m afraid the special offers on their website expired last week so I don’t have the best of recommendations.

However, just from a personal point of view, I used some SuperValu own-brand Irish strawberries for a cake last week. They were absolutely fantastic quality and flavour. Everybody commented on them.

Something else I noticed in store was that Tilda microwave rice packets are 2-for-€2 at the moment. Bearing in mind that each of the rice packets contains 2 adult portions that’s a great price.

TESCO

If you visit any Tesco store on Friday (17th April), and buy a bake from their bake sale you can help the team raise some dough (their pun, not mine) for Temple Street Children’s Hospital. Keep an eye out around the country as The Great Irish Bake is on in aid of Temple Street. It’s well worth supporting this cause which is close to my heart. Speaking of which, you can now make a donation to Temple Street (which is their charity of the year) when shopping online – very clever.

Erin Gro-Bags are 3-for-€6 so a similar price to Lidl and Aldi last week. Both of whose special offers have already sold out as far as I know so well worth making the trip to Tesco to see if they still have stock.

BONUS POINTS

Argos have an 18-piece kids baking starter kit (which includes an apron) reduced from €18.19 to €6.99. They also have a 10-piece non-stick bakeware set reduced from €26.49 to €6.99. This in particular is a bargain as it includes a bun tray, various baking trays and cake tins.

For those who are interested, the George Foreman 10 portion grill is half price for €64.99.
