Nintendo NX launch rumored to begin next year

While Nintendo may not be ready to talk about the successor to the Wii U just yet, it looks like they’re gearing up for a production run for the new console that could be ready to launch as early as July of next year. According to a recent rumor, the Japanese-based company has asked several of its supply chain partners to begin production in October. Foxconn Electronics will be the manufacturer, while Pegatron Technology seeks to help shoulder some of the load according to sources.

Both Foxconn and Pegatron declied to comment on the speculation. According to the rumor, mass production won’t start until May or June 2016 with the launch taking place in July 2016. The rumor says Nintendo is looking to ship around 20 million Nintendo NX units within its first year, which is a stark contrast to the 2 million the Wii U was capable of selling within its launch year.

While this should be taken as a rumor and not treated as fact, if Nintendo does expect to sell 20 million units within a year, one has to wonder if the price will be insanely good, or if it’s a portable hybrid console like has long been speculated. What do you think?
