A Few of My Favourite Things #7

Favourite Things

It’s time for another one! A little roundup of a few of my favourite bits and bobs of the moment, including some beauty, homeware, arty bits and as usual, eats!

Inevitably this post almost doubles up as a bit of a belated “what I got for Christmas” post – arriving back in London and putting my gifts away in their new home is something I was looking forward to, and most definitely acts as a bit of a consolation for being back at my desk and not scoffing chocolates by the fire. Anyway, less rambling…more stuff…

CRAFT

Modern Calligraphy

I mentioned in my last favourites post that I did a beginners class in modern calligraphy with Lamplighter & Quill. Since then I’ve tried to practise at any available opportunity. This has involved getting myself some new inks, and practising my alphabet with ideas from a wonderful book titled Modern Calligraphy by Molly Suber Thorpe.

This book would be a wonderful purchase for anybody starting out in calligraphy – Miguel got it for me as a Christmas present and I’ve bookmarked more than a couple of the projects in there for when I think my lettering is up to scratch. It includes alphabets that you could photocopy and trace, as well as tips on equipment to buy.

I still feel that I have a long long way to go before I’ll be happy with my work, but as soon as I’m getting there, do expect a more in-depth post with some tips that I’ll hopefully have picked up along the way!

EAT

The Blues Kitchen

Any fellow Camden inhabitants will have recognised The Blues Kitchen in my last outfit post. As I used to work down the road at ASOS, this was the go-to for any birthday/leaving meals…and I suppose if I keep going back I must quite like the place! The American menu is right up my street, and surprise surprise, I order the burger every time.

I know they have live music here every night, but I’ve never experienced it as I’ve only ever been in for lunch or brunch on a weekend – the cooked breakfast is enough to finish me off on a Sunday morning. Stop off here if you’re looking for somewhere to grab a meal before a gig at KOKO or before a cinema trip like Miguel & I.

BEAUTY

Charlotte Tilbury’s Glastonberry

I feel like me and red lipstick are done for a while. I’m bored of doing my makeup the same way all the time, and with so many amazing beauty blogs out there, it’s hard not to be inspired to experiment a little.

I’d seen Lily wearing Glastonberry on her blog, and loved the shade. A trip to Selfridges a few weeks later and my first dark lipstick is a staple in my make-up bag.

I’m not a pro at applying dark shades, and think my lips have probably been a little dry for it to look it’s best, but I can see that’s going to get used up already!

HOME

H&M Home

I’m really really late to the party here, but it’s just recently that Miguel and I decided to start replacing some of the older bits in our place with shiny new things, and H&M home has been a wonder. I sent my mum a list as long as my arm of knick-knacks that I wanted for Christmas, and she did a brill job.

It’s all so cheap, but everything I’ve got has been of a perfectly good quality. I’m almost tempted to go on another spree…I mean, hello cute marble photo frame

WEAR

New Jewels

Dainty jewellery is my jaaaaam. I can’t relate to people that feel naked without any jewellery on, as the only constant on my body is my engagement ring. But for Christmas Miguel bought me another Alex Monroe ring – a sweet gold knot that now sits permanently on my other hand.

When I arrived home I was lucky enough to find another new favourite waiting for me – a little gold arrow bracelet from jewellery designer Pheobe Coleman. Isn’t it a beaut? Expect it in almost every outfit post from now on. Maybe I’m becoming a jewellery person?

That’s it for this month! I know asking a question at the bottom of a blog post is *totes* 2008, but I’d genuinely love to hear what you guys have been loving lately in the hope of finding a few new favourites!
