Sakura

Hanami

Ahh, these pictures bring back memories of a wonderful day. We made sure that our first day in Tokyo was spent Sakura (cherry blossom) hunting, as we’d heard they only had a few days left, and wanted to make the most of the full bloom. We’d booked our whole trip around cherry blossom season, it was something that I just had to experience.

As soon as we entered our first hanami spot, Shunjuku Gyoen, I knew I had a lot in common with these Japanese folk – they were practically lined up underneath the most beautiful trees, cameras ready for their selfies. There were picnic blankets covering the ground, as friends and families gathered to eat under the pink and white blooms. Any country with such an appreciation for candyfloss-coloured trees had to be a fantastic one – a great first impression!

We had plenty of other parks on our hitlist for that day, but we managed to spend most of our day here before realising there are only so many pictures of cherry blossoms you can take (I know, I thought it impossible, too) and rushing off for a late lunch of yummy tonkostu ramen.

I’ll have a whole section on Sakura-spotting in my guide to Japan, but I couldn’t leave the park without posing under a tree or ten for an outfit post. More of beautiful Japan coming up very soon!
