VISUALS // BC CAMPLIGHT – YOU SHOULD HAVE GONE TO SCHOOL

Admittedly I haven’t took note of BC Camplight previously, however the alter-ego of American songwriter Brian Christinzio released albums in 2005 and 2007, which would have been around the time I got in to indie music (i.e. Arctic Monkeys and the rest of that ilk). I came across him on the radio this week and lucky me he’s got a new record out on Bella Union called ‘How To Die In The North’ .

It is recorded in his newly adopted home of Manchester, England, is a fantastically rich, stylistically diverse trip. From dramatic, layered pop to a haunted take on Sixties sunshine-pop, from blue-eyed soul to speedy surf-pop, from sparser piano balladry to psychedelic showstoppers and a grand finale that’s part Nilsson and part Broadway showtune.

Being compared to the likes of Brian Wilson, Todd Rundgren, Nilsson, Super Furry Animals and Ariel Pink, BC CAMPLIGHT has just unveiled a charming animated video for new single, featuring Felix The Cat in a starring role!
