Fiber Lash Mascaras- Are they Worth it?? Too Faced Better Than False Lashes Mascara Review

The big trend I’ve noticed as far as mascaras go as of late is fiber lashes.
I know you’ve seen at least one post on your Facebook or youtube feed that shows a before/after picture of a girl with no lashes, and then suddenly gigantic monster lashes, and talking about the mascara (from a particular brand 9 times out of 10) and how you can get the exact same look.

If you have never used a Fiber lash mascara, it’s a three part deal-
1. Apply regular mascara.
2. Cover your lashes with these tiny, individual, fuzzy white fibers that stick to the mascara, and in turn make your lashes seem a lot longer.
3. Repeat Step 1 to cover said fibers to keep them in place and make them black.

I remember a couple years ago getting a sample of a fiber lash mascara from a company. It wasn’t nearly as nice as the ones are today (it was honestly a little tub of these fibers that you kinda just pressed on your lashes (it was a MESS) and then reapplied mascara on top. I tried it and thought how it was one million percent not worth the effort and mess of having these little white fuzzies all over me to get longer lashes.

In recent years, it’s become much simpler, but the results are generally the same.

Now, I don’t have that particular brand’s mascara for you today, but I do have something similar- Too Faced Better than False Lashes Extreme!

So you can see- it comes with the regular mascara, and then the tube with the white fuzzy fibers.

Here are my bare lashes.

Here is my lashes after the application of mascara, fibers, and more mascara.

Better Than False Lashes vs no mascara

I think the thing I didn’t like the most was it made my lashes feel really weird and heavy. Not the same heavy that false lashes do, either. It also made them feel sticky and sort of clumpy- every time I blinked for the first 10 minutes of having it on it felt like it took more effort to open my eyes, if that make sense.

I think the biggest thing for me in why I’m not totally sold on the fiber lashes is how it makes your lashes look like they have millions of split ends. That’s the fibers being coated and pulled out. It kinda makes me feel like I pulled apart a cotton ball and put pieces of cotton on my lashes, and applied mascara overtop. It feels fuzzy and looks fuzzy, and I can definitely see it becoming thick and having that ‘tarantula leg’ look if you went overboard with the fibers.

Overall, this isn’t really my cup of tea. Yes, it made my lashes thicker and darker for sure, as well as even adding some curl, but the way it felt was really not worth it in my eyes. I’d much rather use regular mascara (Too Faced Better Than Sex!) and if I wanted to go bold, apply falsies, because they will always look more uniform and pretty and (once the glue is dried, at least!) don’t have this sticky, tacky feel to them.

What’s your take on the Fiber Lash Phenomenon? Are you a believer? Interested? Against? Let me know in the comments.
