My Favorite Photography Discoveries Of 2014

There is not a single day in which I do not stumble on a photograph that makes me feel something. There are so many talented artists everywhere, so many people who have a story to tell, a message to deliver.

Some of them decide to use photography to express themselves, and I am so happy to live in a world where they can be discovered quite easily via the internet.

I would like to share with you my top 5 favorite photography discoveries of this year, in NO particular order.

I bet that you have not heard about – at least – half the artists I want to introduce you to. I hope you will be moved by what they create… Enjoy!

Heather

Heather’s pictures offer a calm, elegant, soft atmosphere. They are both fresh and timeless. What amazes me the most is that, although they seem quite simple – not too much photoshop, no levitation, no “tricks”,etc. – they have so much to tell: a whole story hides behind every single one of them. Every time Heather shares a new picture, she leaves me stunned. What she achieves with a camera is like magic to me.

Yuliana Mendoza, Silence Effects

Yuliana Mendoza, aka Silence Effects, is what I would call “an oddity”, in the BEST sense of the term. There are simply no words to describe her work. It is like nothing you’ve ever seen before, which makes it so interesting.

Anka Zhuravleva’s circus series

If you like fine art photography, you probably already know Anka Zhuravleva. Her pictures are so romantic and she has a very specific way of capturing the look in the eyes of her models.

I fell in love with her circus series the moment I looked at it. I loved the colors, the square format, the magic of the circus of course, the vignetting effect… and everything else!

*****

Xiao Yang’s Love Letter series

I discovered Xiao Yang’s (aka inhiu) Love Letter series with the Love Letter 14. Just like with Silence Effects’ pictures, my first reaction was “I have NEVER seen anything like that“.

Xiao Yang creates the most impressive double exposure pictures I have ever seen. Of course her pictures are not in-camera multiple exposures, but when I look at her series I really do not care to know that she’s used Photoshop. I am just bewitched.

*****

Ella Campbell

Ella Campbell, aka Lylwen, is a young artist based in Geneva. I cannot believe that she is 16 and so talented (when I was 16, I was just studying). The more the artists are young, the more I am amazed by what they create. I am stunned by her self portraits, by the way she captures her own look and emotions. She is incredibly creative; it is such a pleasure to watch her grow, express herself through photography, and develop her talent.
