YM&C Exclusive Q&A And New Single Premiere With Jordan JAE
I absolutely love it when I find out about talented new artists, so when I was introduced to Jordan JAE you could say it was love at first listen.
She may only be 15 years old but she has a voice that would make you think she’s been singing for much longer. From her covers to her original songs there’s not much this girl can’t sing.
Besides her voice, I love the fact that her lyrics mean something and aren’t just the silly meaningless lyrics that you can hear too much of in the music industry today.
She truly is a lovely lady with a bright future ahead of her, which is why I’m so excited that I got the chance to ask the lovely lady herself some questions to find out more about the girl behind the music.

1. Before we get started let’s play ‘get to know you.’ Give me 4 facts about yourself!
I am a singer-songwriter, very funny and sarcastic, determined to achieve success in whatever I do, and love to read.
2. Who would you say are your top 3 musical influences?
My top 3 musical influences are Avril Lavigne, Ed Sheeran, and Ellie Goulding. Avril Lavigne was the artist I listened to growing up non-stop. I admired her passion and edge, she is a huge part of the reason I started getting into music. Seeing as I’m a lyricist Ed Sheeran, is definitely a huge inspiration of mine. His lyrics are beautiful and genuine. Ellie Goulding has inspired me to head more toward an Indie Pop direction with my singing-songwriting. She is an amazing lyrist and has such a fabulous sound that really gets my creative juices flowing when listening to her music.
3. How would you describe your musical style to someone who’s never heard your songs before?
I started off my musical career singing and writing more Pop based music. As I have gotten older, my singing-songwriting has changed more towards Indie Pop. The lyrics I write are always meaningful to me and I think that comes across in the style of my music.
4. What inspires you to write songs?
My life experiences, friends, and family inspire me to sing and write music. Honestly even strangers inspire me everyday. I write from memories, books, movies, and sometimes even dreams. I write about the kindness of a friend or the expression on someone’s face. People and everyday experiences inspire me to write music.
5. What does music mean to you?
Music, simply put, means everything to me! It helps me through happy and sad times. Music has seen me through countless amount of sleepless nights. When I feel completely and utterly alone music is what makes me feel like I have someone there who understands when the whole world doesn’t.
6. If you could collaborate with any musicians right now, who would they be and why?
If I could collaborate with any musicians right now it would be Ed Sheeran. His lyrics are inspiring. They are beautiful and really speak to me. He is a brilliant lyricist and I couldn’t even imagine getting the opportunity to work with him.
7. What is your favorite song that you’ve written and why?
My favorite song that I’ve written is definitely Hopping Fences. Every time that I write I feel I progress a little more as an artist and when I wrote Hopping Fences I felt like a part of me evolved in this song. It explained exactly how I felt at that moment in my life. I want to express that feeling in felt to others and I think that’s exactly what Hopping Fences does.
8. What do you like to do when you aren’t working on your music?
When I’m not working on my music I love to read, write short stories or poems, and draw. I love doing anything creative. I’ve never been really good at sports but writing and singing are my passion!
9. Hopping Fences has easily become one of my new favorite songs after just a couple listens. What does this song mean to you and how excited are you for people to finally be hearing it right here on You Me & Charlie?
As a teen we often feel misunderstood and are frustrated by the inability of our parents to understand us. There are times when we just blindly stumble through life not truly understanding what’s expected of us. We’re constantly told that we are either to young to understand, or that we need to grow up and learn to deal. As a result we can feel fenced in and unsure of ourselves. I know I do. “Hopping Fences” is about jumping over that fence, secure in ourselves and ready to take on life and everything it has to throw at us.
I am beyond excited for people to hear this song! The fact that I have the opportunity to share my music with people all around the world is absolutely astounding. It’s the most incredible feeling in the world!
10. What do you hope to accomplish in your musical career?
I hope to be a successful singer-songwriter and that my lyrics will speak to people. If my songs make people feel some sort of lasting emotion then I believe as an artist I have done something right. My biggest musical performance dream would to be on stage at Madison Square Garden. I have lived in NYC my whole life and have seen many of my favorite performers on this stage. I know this is a big dream but I have always liked to dream big!
11. Best advice you’ve ever gotten?
The best advice I have ever gotten was that the only way to succeed is to practice. The more I practice the more I have learned that is the key to success! If you haven’t practiced you may not be ready for the opportunity that comes around the corner.
12. If people could only take away one thing from listening to your music, what do you hope that would be?
I hope my music will inspire people! I really spend time thinking about the melodies and lyrics that I write. The music that inspires me is when I feel the emotion from the artist. It is the music that motivates me to be a better artist. I hope to inspire others through my music.
